The Mountain Lakes Area Branch of AAUW provides Local
Scholarships for women students in higher education. An updated
downloadable, printable application will be avaible in March 2009.
Congratulations to our 2008 Recipients!
Stephanie GabelmanLibrary assistant, Boonton Holmes Library,
she is cited by her directors for "incredible initiative, enthusiam,
and dedication." Stephanie graduated from Rutgers with a 3.9 GPA
and will be working ona grad degree. She. lives with her husband and
five-year-old daughter in Boonton.
Kahla KirbyA junior at U. of Delaware, Kahla plans to graduate
with a BA in economics with a minor in political science. She is working
on a candidate for Lt. Gov. in DE and is also interested in volunteer
work overseas. She lives in Parsippany and is a Boonton High alum.
Michelle ChiaravalloAlso a junior, Michelle attends the
College of St. Elizabeth, where she is majoring in early childhood and
elementary education with a spec. ed. certificate. Michelle maintained
a 3.7+ GPA while working 4-5 days/week. Primarily paying for her education
herself, she lives is a graduate of Montville High and lives in Pine
Brook.
At various times during the year, AAUW's national Educational Foundation
offers Fellowship and Grant programs, with deadlines falling in various
months of the year, include: American Fellowships, Career Development
Grants, Community Action Grants, Selected Professional Fellowships,
and University Scholar-in-Residence. To learn more about AAUW Educational

Applicants for the Branch scholarship must meet the following requirements:

Official residence in Boonton, Boonton
Township, Denville, Kinnelon, Montville, Mountain Lakes, Parsippany,
Rockaway, or Rockaway Township.
- Completion of sophomore year at an accredited college
or university or matriculation in a masters program by June 2009.
Criteria for awards:
- scholastic record
- economic need
- motivation
- goals
The committee puts primary emphasis on economic need.
At least one scholarship is reserved for a mature woman returning to college
to complete her degree.
